We had been looking for several years for a vacation/retirement home, when we visited Angel Fire with friends for the first time in June 2010. We knew immediately we had found it, and made four more trips before September to find a home. We found a great home with magnificent views of Moreno Valley and Wheeler Peak. The home really needed remodeling though. Our great realtor and new friend, Rogers Lannon, recommended John Sutton. We met with John 3 or 4 times between September and January. He was very patient in getting to know us and discuss our ideas for the house. He spent hours with us before he even knew if he would get the project. Like most people, we were pretty apprehensive about undertaking a major remodel so far from home, but John and Bonnie were very conscientious in keeping us informed of the progress and issues that needed our attention throughout the project. John was always available and responsive by phone, text, and e-mail. He took our design ideas and made them work beautifully (not always an easy task), suggesting some of his own with great results. He even graciously cleaned the house and moved all construction materials out and furniture in so we could use the house with family twice during the project. We’re really pleased with the results and can’t wait to spend lots of time in Angel Fire. John and Sutton Construction have a great reputation for honesty and quality work and it’s very well deserved. We would recommend Sutton Construction for any build or remodel job without hesitation.

I have had other homes built in the past in Texas, but this house is being constructed in New Mexico, 10 hour drive away. The communication with John on site and Bonnie in the office has kept me in the loop concerning the progress of the house. The use of cell phones, text messages, and pictures make it seem like I am on site with the crews. I always look forward to seeing the next set of pictures. John has years of experience building homes in this area, so I take his suggestions and his choice of sub-contractors as the best in the area. As the home owner, we have had some changes to the home as we go. He works with us to accommodate our wishes in a way that keeps our budget in mind and keep the construction on schedule. Sutton Construction replaced all the decks on our Angel Fire family retreat and they look beautiful. The old decks had held up well considering that the house was built in 1978. John rebuilt the decks in the original heavy timber frame style, but improved greatly on the original design and layout. Having built homes in the past and being a craftsman myself, it was a pleasure to see the craftsmanship and professional way that John and his crew transformed a tired old house into a spruced up cabin in the woods. The heavy snowfall this past winter left the deck of our cabin in ruins. Replacing the deck was to be our first construction project in Angel Fire and we were somewhat apprehensive about finding the right contractor for the job. When Barbara and I decided to build our dream house we had several ideas as to how it should be built, but also wanted to maximize the view from our lot in Angel Fire of the Moreno Valley. We are eager to thank, commend, and recommend Sutton Construction of Angel Fire, New Mexico. Seven years ago we developed a house design and Sutton Construction built our first Angel Fire home. We were very impressed and pleased with Sutton’s quality workmanship and timely performance. The punch list was short. We moved in on time. We enjoyed our new mountain home and it’s wonderful views. As time passed we came to realize that our good design could possibly be made even better. The ‘itch’ to try again took root and began to grow. We puchased another ‘view’ lot. Sutton Construction earned the contract. Construction of our second mountain home was a pleasant and gratifying experience. He not only resolved design questions as they arose but he also offered many suggestions to further enhance the design. Details like arches, nichos and bancos are in large part attributable to Richard’s proposals and good design sense. The house was completed on time and at a reasonable price.
